Spiral

Spiral
The boats drift in from sea.
The civilians point and boast.
The important-looking man wastes
no time in observing.
The workers don't look up.
The spiral--is like a conch shell
shattered underfoot by some child on the beach
but, for now, it remains. It lives.
Somewhere over the horizon
Nothing exists anymore
Because the Creator only had patience for
this spiral.
But at least they had clearer skies.
The trees are indifferent.
The clouds circle and leave.
The workers don't look up
But if they did, they would see
there is only darkness inside
the spiral
