The Historian’s Future

I read the past and try to understand,
what is it that we’ve left behind?
I write stories, both humble and grand,
always seeking, never sure what I’ll find.

But what of the future, far, far away?
What will they say when we are gone?
Will they remember how we lived today,
or will our thoughts fade away like the dawn?

I can't predict the way things will unfold,
but someone will read these pages one day.
The future’s a story not yet told,
Even though it’s ages and ages away

I don’t know where the future will take us
but still my mind wanders restlessly
whether it breaks us or makes us
I shall read the past endlessly

So for now, I write, and keep it clear,
Hoping that our story one day will re-appear

  • Hi! I’m Lyra. I had a thought about your poetry some poems carry such strong emotions, imagery, or atmosphere that they could work beautifully as visual artwork too, rather than staying only as written pieces. I’m a commission-based artist with around 3 years of experience, and I create illustrations based on ideas and writing. I’d love to turn one of your poems into artwork, whether that’s an illustrated scene, symbolic piece, or even a visual format you could share to promote your poetry and reach more readers. If that sounds interesting, I’d be happy to show you my portfolio.  You can contact me via mail: contact.lilaclines@gmail.com insta: _lilac_lines_
