  Every year, teenagers apply for the Cycle: a deadly sequence of simulations. Sometimes the smartest win. Sometimes the strongest win. Winning brings fame, money, and status. Avara, a Red, plays to let her crippled brother survive. Lance, a Blue, is an outcast after public humiliation. Their friendship is unlikely - but it's real.
